Last years preparations to travel to Wales were cut down in their prime, as just a couple of weeks before the race weekend, the round was moved to my home circuit Donington. Normally drivers are happy to get a surprise of racing at their home circuit, but given my track record with Donington, and the fact Anglesey has always been one of my favourite circuits, I was pretty disappointed.
The previous visit to Anglesey in 2019 was definitely a weekend I will never forget! After having a fairly disappointing qualifying in the wet weather on Saturday morning where both my team mate Joe and myself struggled, qualifying down in 8th and 14th places respectively, it seemed impossible that by the end of the weekend I would be taking my first podium finish in the BRSCC Mazda Mx-5 championship, with the podium made even sweeter as I had guests from my sponsors EPTA Projects coming to watch on the Sunday afternoon!
Onto 2021 and what a difference 2 years makes. Having qualified on pole position at both the previous rounds, the pace seems to definitely be there this year, however, with Anglesey posing a very unique challenge compared to Croft and Silverstone, as well as the coastal weather always throwing a curveball into the mix.
Thankfully for this weekend we are reverting to the usual format of having Qualifying and Race 1 on the Saturday, with Race 2 and 3 on Sunday, with all the action live on TSL Live Timing and via the BRSCC Youtube channel.
