2024 Round 2 Snetterton Preview: Cautious Optimism

Updated: May 22

Round 2 of the BRSCC Mazda Mx-5 Supercup championship is already upon us, just 3 weeks after the first race week of the season.

Round 1 was a promising weekend despite the results not really showing the full potential we had in the car. With a set up break-through on the Friday afternoon, followed by some very good wet weather pace on the Sunday morning, it seemed the team managed to get a good baseline for the car for all conditions.

Through the very short break between races we have been non-stop in the garage to try and improve the overall performance of the car. This weekend will be the first chance to test the upgrades we have been working on to try and bridge the gap to the front of the field. It also means that now there will officially be nothing remaining from the crashed car of 2023 in the new car, so we will have everything crossed that there is an improvement in overall performance.

Timetable for Round 2 of the BRSCC Mx-5 Supercup at Snetterton

Snetterton has been a happy hunting ground for me in the past, with 2 wins and an additional 4 podium finishes, including my sole podium finish in the BRSCC Mazda Mx-5 Supercup at the end of the 2022 season. Although the outfield section has never suited the car with the power hungry nature, the infield section the car seems to come alive and we will be hoping for more of the same this weekend.

The weather looks set to be wet throughout the test day followed by a potentially dry race weekend, so the dry winter testing we had at the beginning of March at Snetterton could prove to really valuable for the team and what direction to go with the set-up for the weekend.

Last time racing at Snetterton in 2022 saw us return with some hard earned silverware after a very difficult season.

The format for the weekend see's us have Qualifying and race 1 on Saturday, followed by race 2 and 3 on Sunday with all the times below:

Saturday:

Qualifying: 09:25 - 09:45

Race 1: 13:10 - 13:30

Sunday:

Race 2: 10:00 - 10:20

Race 3: 13:35 - 13:55

If we have a live stream this weekend, the races will be live on the BRSCC YouTube channel via the link below, with TSL Live Timing streaming all the timing for qualifying and the races.

See you on the other side

Jack
