2024 Round 1 Silverstone Preview: Back to Business

That was quite some winter break... 11 months later, I can finally say... Its race week!

Obviously over the past 11 months a lot has happened and changed to get myself back ready to be behind the wheel of a race car. A brand new chassis was required, a new roll cage, all new safety equipment, a new gearbox, both front and rear subframes and much much more. In fact only the engine, differential and the beaded seat survived the wreckage.

The support I had throughout the long winter break was outstanding, with all my sponsors continuing to support me to get back onto the grid with a new car, despite not competing and representing them on track. As well as help from the championship sponsors Clapham North and Downforce radio, and also help from friends and fellow competitors through my GoFundMe page. All will be represented on the car for this year as a little thank you for helping to get me back on the race track.

Once again I have entered and will be competing in the BRSCC Mazda Mx5 Supercup, that will consist of 8 rounds from March to October at circuits all over the country with a total of 24 races that will be streamed on the BRSCC YouTube channel.

A new season always provides a new and fresh challenge, but unlike Formula 1, regular rule changes are not common in British Club motorsport, with rules tending to be refined rather than wholesale changes. However, for 2024 the championship has moved to a different tyre manufacture, with Kumho Tyres being the nominated manufacture, and will see us using a different profile of tyre as well as a different compound, drastically changing the handling of the cars. A wet tyre has also been introduced making mixed condition races even more of a gamble than before. The potential for a mix up of the order could be on the cards.

One thing that has remained the same for this year is the weekend format, with Friday an optional test day for those who wish to do so, followed by Saturday Qualifying and Race 1, with Race 2 and 3 being on the Sunday with the timings for the official sessions below.

Saturday:

Qualifying: 09:25 - 09:45

Race 1: 13:15 - 13:35

Sunday:

Race 2: 11:30 - 11:50

Race 3: 15:40 - 16:00

With the weather looking set to be very mixed as has been for what seems like forever, it could be a fantastic weekends racing to watch. To follow all the action live, visit the BRSCC Youtube channel via the following link, with all the race results and live timing found on TSL.

See you on the other side...

Jack
